Headquarters, 80th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 49 (February 18, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Herman C. Park (ASN: 0-351053), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 26 and 27 January 1945 in Luxembourg. Serving as the commander of a rifle company attacking Hosingen, Luxembourg, on 26 and 27 January 1945, Lieutenant Park collected and coordinated his men to attack and take their objective in spite of heavy mortar and artillery fire. His courageous example carried the attack through machine gun and sniper fire and, although communications were broken with the battalion, Lieutenant Park controlled the attack in an exemplary manner. His bravery, leadership, and constant devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
