The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Theodore Moronczyk (ASN: 36885437), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 13 January 1945 in Luxembourg. In an advance against Langerscheid Hill, Luxembourg, on 13 January 1945, the attacking rifle company in which Private Moronczyk served as a rifleman was temporarily delayed by fire from an unobserved enemy machine gun. Crawling through a field studded with anti-personnel mines and in which mortar and artillery shells were landing, Private Moronczyk proceeded to within twenty yards of the enemy positions from where he effectively threw hand grenades into the gun pit, destroying the gun and crew. The utter disregard for his own personal safety shown by Private Moronczyk enabled the company to successfully continue the attack. The courage, determination, and unselfish devotion to duty displayed by Private Moronczyk are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
