The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Harold V. Paice (ASN: 42119896), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 22 December 1944 in Luxembourg. While serving as an ammunition bearer in a mortar section of an assaulting rifle company during an attack upon Ettelbruck, Luxembourg, on 22 December 1944, Private First Class Paice fearlessly proceeded well forward of his unit in the face of fierce enemy machine gun and small arms fire and skillfully employed his rifle against an attempted enemy attack. Private First Class Paice remained at his vital position until mortally wounded, but his dauntless courage successfully delayed the enemy and enabled his company to obtain the objective. The bravery, outstanding initiative, and zealous devotion to duty displayed by Private First Class Paice were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
