The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Alois William Kasberger (ASN: 36279411), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 27th Infantry Division at Saipan, Mariana Islands, on 23 June 1944. Private Kasberger left his slit trench and went to the aid of a wounded soldier to whom he administered first aid. He remained above ground treating the wounded man the entire night. During the time, he shot one enemy soldier and bayoneted another who attempted to kill him and his wounded comrade. His actions exemplified the highest traditions of the military service.
