The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Homer Brown Cooley (ASN: 34623721), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 27th Infantry Division at Saipan, Mariana Islands, on 25 June 1944. While under enemy observation and fire Private Cooley administered first aid to a wounded man. Then, while still under fire and with no cover at all, he carried the wounded man to safety, covering a distance of 50 yards across an open field.
