The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Robert D. Doll (ASN: 35651277), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 27th Infantry Division at Saipan, Mariana Islands, on 3 July 1944. Private First Class Doll voluntarily moved from cover to bring a wounded man to safety. His disregard for enemy machine gun fire to bring aid to a wounded comrade was an inspiration to those who witnessed the act.
