The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant Albert J. Teshon (ASN: 32058527), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 27th Infantry Division at Saipan, Mariana Islands, on 25 June 1944. While in action against enemy machine guns and riflemen, and while his squad was pinned down by enemy fire halfway up an enemy-held hill, he crawled forward to obtain a better position to observe the enemy. In doing so he disregarded his own safety, thus exposing himself to enemy fire. He was shot and seriously wounded. He then braced himself on his knees and directed his squad to better covered positions. Staff Sergeant Teshon died as a member of his squad reached him to administer first aid. His actions and display of leadership, and the efficient manner in which he conducted himself under enemy fire were an inspiration to his platoon.
