Thomas R. Scales and Robert W. Monahan, both U.S. civilians, were traveling by jeep several miles southeast of Saigon in Gia Dinh Province when they were
stopped and captured by the Viet Cong on May 27, 1966. They were held in captivity until their release on January 1, 1967.
