Walter Eckes was interned as a Prisoner of War in South Vietnam after he was captured on May 10, 1966. On June 5, 1966, he and fellow prisoner James Dodson, wrested their guards’ weapons while they were being fed and escaped, evading the enemy for four days until they reached Allied forces.
