The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Sergeant John C. Dickinson, United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life at Westhersfield Road, Shalford Green, Essex, England, on 31 December 1969. On that date, Sergeant Dickinson rushed to the area where two vehicles had collided. With complete disregard for his own safety, and despite the hazard of exploding fuel, Sergeant Dickinson unhesitatingly entered one of the flaming vehicles and suffered burns to the hands while extinguishing the flames. He then administered first aid to an injured sergeant in the second vehicle. By his courageous action and humanitarian regard for his fellowman, Sergeant Dickinson has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
