The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Staff Sergeant Gene F. Gagnon, United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy, on 17 May 1983, while a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 72d Armor, 2d Infantry Division, Republic of Korea. His heroic conduct in this emergency is in the highest traditions of the United States Army and reflects great credit upon himself to the military service.
