The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Vincent C. Bartoloni (ASN: 18057838), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 27th Infantry Division, in action at Saipan, Mariana Islands, on 25 June 1944. When three officers were seriously wounded on an exposed ridge Private First Class Bartoloni, with the assistance of another medical soldier and an infantryman, voluntarily crawled ahead of our lines through an open area constantly swept by enemy machine gun and rifle fire, to reach and bring back to safety the wounded officers. His prompt action, performed with full knowledge of the extreme personal danger involved, undoubtedly saved the life of at least one of these officers.
