The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Coast Artillery Corps) Arthur E. Huff (ASN: 0-285187), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while Commanding Battery B, 60th Coast Artillery Regiment (Anti-Aircraft), in action at Corregidor on or about 30 April 1942. On that date, Captain Huff and three enlisted men left shelter near an anti-aircraft battery and repaired the halyards of the flagpole on Corregidor, during an attack by enemy dive-bombers. Captain Huff’s gallant actions and selfless devotion to duty, without regard for his own safety, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
