The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Raymond F. Chandler (ASN: 31327617), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with Company A, 150th Engineer Combat Battalion, 1135th Engineer Combat Group, on 7 February 1945, in Luxembourg. Corporal Chandler, at the risk of his own life and with complete disregard for his own personal safety, rescued a fellow Engineer who had fallen into the swift river. After rescuing the drowning soldier, Corporal Chandler administered artificial respiration while under heavy enemy artillery fire, until the man revived. The outstanding gallantry and dauntless courage displayed by Corporal Chandler exemplified the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
