The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Harold L. Grimes (ASN: RA-18177673), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 21st Anti-Aircraft Artillery (Automatic Weapons) Battalion (Self Propelled), 25th Infantry Division, in action near Changgo-ri, Korea, on 29 March 1951. On that date, friendly forces launched an attack on strong hostile positions near Changgo-ri, Korea. Despite exposure to intense small arms and automatic weapons fire, Sergeant First Class Grimes guided his half-track section to flanking vantage points which commanded a full sweep of the main enemy strongpoints. By his skillful coordination of movement and fire, he was instrumental in enabling the infantry to secure the objective. Sergeant First Class Grimes was seriously wounded while fulfilling his mission. His courageous leadership, military ability and inspirational devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
