The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Armando Amy (ASN: 0-954374), United States Army, for heroic achievement during ground operations against a hostile force as a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 25 April 1951, in the vicinity of Ckugyo, Korea, Company A was ordered to occupy Hill 332 and hold at all costs. Since the company had been marching and fighting without relief for three consecutive days, it was a tired group of men who moved into the position on top of the strategic hill. Almost immediately after they reached the summit, they were engaged in a fierce fire fight with the enemy and forced to withdraw for reorganization. Lieutenant Amy, realizing the seriousness of the situation, rallied and organized his weary men, personally leading them in a grenade assault on the hostile force. Due to Lieutenant Amy’s aggressive leadership the company held off three enemy counterattacks which prevented them from occupying the important location. Lieutenant Amy’s heroic and bold actions reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.

Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 343 (8 August 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Armando Amy (ASN: 0-954374), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 4 June 1951, near Unchon-ni, Korea, Company A was given the mission of assaulting a mountain peak stronghold of an estimated two-battalion enemy force. During the assault, Lieutenant Amy’s platoon became subjected to a severe enemy barrage and suffered many casualties. Continually rallying his men, Lieutenant Amy and a handful of troops succeeded in reaching the objective, where they were immediately and strongly counterattacked. Although bleeding profusely from head wounds and blinded in one eye, Lieutenant Amy refused to be evacuated and continued staunchly to direct the defense of the recently gained position. Not until the company commander ordered the unit to withdraw for reorganization, did Lieutenant Amy permit himself to be taken to an aid station in a rear area. The superb gallantry displayed by Lieutenant Amy reflects the highest credit upon himself and is in keeping with the most esteemed traditions of the military service.
