The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Commandant Philippe A. Crevoisier de Vomcourt , Army of France, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as an Organizer of Resistance Forces in the Departments of Cher and Loir-et-gher, Office of Strategic Services, in action against enemy forces in enemy-occupied France, from 9 April 1944 to 15 September 1945. Parachuted into an extremely dangerous area rigidly controlled by the Gestapo, he created a remarkably strong, disciplined and active resistance force. Displaying outstanding and inspiring leadership, he directed the highly effective actions which aided the allied armies by immobilizing the enemy and liberating the area. Taking a most active and courageous part of all of these activities, he was personally responsible for the liquidation of a number of Gestapo agents. His personal achievements in the face of almost insurmountable obstacles contributed immeasurably to the success of the invasion and the rapid advance through France of the Allied Expeditionary Force. Commandant de Vomcourt ‘s outstanding accomplishments, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the Armed Forces of the Allied Nations.
