The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private First Class Donald G. Passage (ASN: 36124648), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company H, 2d Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on 8 November 1942, at Kasba-Mehdia, French Morocco. Although under enemy fire from the front and the flank, Private First Class Passage kept his machine gun in action, silencing enemy fire and enabling our troops to withdraw to positions from which they could effectively engage the enemy. His heroic actions cost him his life. Private First Class Passage’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 9th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
