Headquarters, FIRST U.S. Army, General Orders No. 70 (October 17, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Thaddeus Ronsaville Dulin (ASN: 0-20881), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on 22 June 1944, in France. Lieutenant Colonel Dulin led his battalion in an attack upon a fortified enemy position. Forcing his way around the left flank of the German position, he seized the high ground in the rear of the enemy. While regrouping his units, the enemy counterattacked vigorously. In order to hold this position, Lieutenant Colonel Dulin organized and personally led a bayonet charge which broke up the enemy counter attack and enabled his battalion to retain their strategic position. Lieutenant Colonel Dulin lost his life in the performance of this valiant feat. The extraordinary heroism and fearless leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Dulin set an inspiring example to his men and exemplifies the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States, reflecting great credit upon himself, the 4th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
