Headquarters, X Corps, General Orders No. 59 (April 1, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Albert Gibson (ASN: RA-15274716), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Pungsan, Korea, on 1 November 1950. On this date Private First Class Gibson was part of a unit occupying a defensive position near Pungsan. During the early morning hours a concerted enemy attack was made on the entire position. Private First Class Gibson’s automatic rifle was hit and put out of action by enemy small arms fire. Rather than abandoned his position, he teamed with another man to continue firing. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Gibson, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
