The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Sergeant Gregory H. Cinque, United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life at Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, on 29 May 1974. On that date, Sergeant Cinque investigated his dog’s alert to Warehouse D-11. His investigation detected a large chlorine gas lead emanating from stored gas bottles. With complete disregard for his own safety, Sergeant Cinque identified the location of the leaking bottle, notified Central Security Control, and carried his asphyxiated dog to safety. This act was accomplished successfully even though Sergeant Cinque was in a semi-conscious state as a result of also becoming asphyxiated. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Sergeant Cinque reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
