(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class John Milton Bond, Jr., United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a radioman with Company L, 3rd Battalion, 341st Infantry Regiment, 86th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the Germany, on 14 April 1945. Refusing medical aid he painfully carried his radio in the wake of our troops and effectively maintained continuous radio contact with other units in his battalion until he was hit again and mortally wounded by enemy fire. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Bond, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
