The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Bradley F. Jones, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Battery B, 49th Field Artillery Battalion, 7th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Hoengsong, Korea, on 12 February 1951 and 13 February 1951. On these dates, when a strong enemy force attacked a convoy of a withdrawing task force, intense automatic weapons, small arms and mortar fire and grenades forced the convoy personnel to abandon their vehicles and seek cover. During the first attack, when the officers of his battery were wounded, Sergeant Jones immediately assumed control of the unit. Disregarding his own safety, he exposed himself to the withering enemy fire to clear the road and keep the column moving. His calmness and daring spread contagiously among the men, who responded with a new fighting spirit and reluctance to abandon their equipment. Through his fearless leadership, the unit was reorganized and was successful in accomplishing their mission. Sergeant Jones’ gallant actions on this occasion reflect great credit on himself and the military service.
