By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Angello Festa, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company F, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during the Battle of the Marine, Private Festa was in charge of a Chauchaut squad, which was on the bank of the rifer when the Germans attempted to cross. Private Festa’s fire was so effective that the Germans attempting the crossing of the river were either killed or forced to retire. Private Festa stuck to his post until surrounded by Germans coming from the rear and until his men were all killed or wounded, and then fought his way back to his company and did valuable work throughout the engagement.
