By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Albert F. Miles (ASN: 2046422), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company I, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 16 October 1918, at Ville aux Bois Farm, when a pile of enemy artillery ammunition was hit by a shell and a comrade was seriously wounded within ten yards of the exploding pile, Corporal Miles displayed extraordinary heroism in removing the wounded man from danger and carrying him to a place of safety, this being done while the pile of ammunition was still exploding violently.
