The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to Major General Jeffrey Roy Grime, United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. Major General Grime distinguished himself as the Chief of Staff, Headquarters Allied Forces North Europe, Stavanger, Norway, from 15 May 1998 to 30 September 1999. During this period, General Grime’s dynamic and visionary leadership was central to the successful reorganization and alignment of the Principal Subordinate Command Headquarters into a Joint Sub-Regional Headquarters during the complete reorganization of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) command structure. His crisp, clear leadership of Headquarters North during numerous significant large-scale NATO exercises led directly to improved readiness for both the staff and participating Allied forces. As the Senior United States Military Officer in Scandinavia, General Grime provided keen oversight of American interests in the region while strengthening cooperative relationships with Norwegian military and civilian leaders. General Grime’s contributions to the United States Air Force and accomplishments of General Grime culminate a long and distinguished career in the service of his country and reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
