The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Specialist Shane D. Rudick, United States Army, for heroism during a catastrophic indirect fire attack on Camp Taji, Iraq,, on 23 June 2007 while serving as a Crew Chief in Charlie Company, 4-227th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Specialist Ruddick’s audacity, personal courage, and immediate actions saved the life of an American soldier in the face of deadly enemy indirect fire. His actions embody the warrior ethos and reflect great credit upon himself, the 1st Cavalry Division, and the United States Army.
