Confer, United States Air Force, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in 1961. Colonel Confer established three new world speed records for the 1,000 kilometer closed course at Edwards Air Force Base, California, flying a B-58 Hustler.
