The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Captain Thomas M. Ezzell, United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life at Kwang-Ju Air Base, Korea, on 27 August 1971. On that date, Captain Ezzell rushed to the scene of an accident where a Republic of Korea C-46 aircraft had crashed while attempting an emergency landing. With complete disregard for his own safety, and despite the intense heat of the burning left wing and imminent danger of exploding fuel tanks, Captain Ezzell attempted to rescue the aircraft co-pilot and provided aid to several other Korean crash victims. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Captain Ezzell have reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
