    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Evan James Quiros, United States Air Force, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force as a Forward Air Controller of the 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron, DaNang Air Base, South Vietnam, in action on 23 November 1970. On that date, Captain Quiros responded to a call for help from an endangered ground reconnaissance team. Despite marginal weather, intense hostile automatic weapons fire and battle damage to his aircraft, Captain Quiros was able to locate the team, prevent them from being overrun and effect their eventual rescue. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Captain Quiros has reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Evan James Quiros, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Forward Air Controller of the 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron, DaNang Air Base, South Vietnam, in action in Southeast Asia on 14 September 1970. On that date, Captain Quiros flew in support of a long range reconnaissance team deep in hostile territory which was under attack by a numerically superior hostile force. Disregarding his own personal safety, he directed aerial ordnance in their defense thus permitting a successful rescue and the saving of friendly lives. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Quiros reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
