On that date, Lieutenant Hamilton led a flight of F4D’s designated to suppress and divert flak from a flight of aircraft that were delivering very sophisticated special ordnance on a highly strategic target complex. He successfully delivered his ordnance on a pre-planned area of heavily firing anti-aircraft sites, thereby diverting the attention of the sites, as the other flight positioned itself for ordnance release. In addition, he actively engaged two hostile aircraft that were firing at another F4D, broke off their attack, flew temporary air cover for two downed pilots, and brought another element of F4D’s out of North Vietnam.
