The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Sergeant First Class George F. Bammert (ASN: RA-32920263), United States Army, for heroic achievement while serving with Company L, 3rd Battalion, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 16 September 1950, in the vicinity of Changyong, Korea. On that date his company was assaulting enemy positions in the drive toward the Naktong River. Sergeant Bammert, the communications sergeant, voluntarily carried ammunition to the assault platoons while under intense mortar, light artillery, and small arms fire. His courageous actions in resupplying the leading elements contributed greatly to the continued advance of his company. The heroism displayed by Sergeant Bammert reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
