(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Specialist Fifth Class James H. Harmon, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as a Combat Photographer with the 221st Signal Company, 1st Signal Brigade, in action near Dak To, Republic of Vietnam, on 18 November 1967. Specialist Harmon was with an airborne infantry company when it came under automatic weapons, rocket and mortar attack. He continued photographing the action until he ran out of film. After re-supplying himself, he moved back to the point element through a hail of bullets and continued his mission. When snipers opened fire from trees, Specialist Harmon engaged their positions with deadly rifle fire. Although wounded by small arms and mortar fire, he continued to fight furiously against the enemy. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
