After surviving the Pearl Harbor attack and leading an unsuccessful search party to locate the invaders, Russell Waldron continued service in the Army Air Forces during World War II. After the war he transferred to the U.S. Air Force when it became a separate branch of service in 1947, and took early retirement in 1962 as a U.S. Air Force Major General. He then attended seminary and was ordained an Episcopal priest, serving in various parishes until 1972, a which time he became a supply priest for the Diocese of Northern California.
