Michelle Johnson graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado, Class of 1981, where she was the first woman to serve as Cadet Wing Commander. She was twice named an Academic All-American and was inducted into the Academic All-American Hall of Fame in 2007, making her the first woman from the Academy and one of only six graduates with that distinction. In 2007 she was appointed a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General. In 2010 she received her second star, and in 2013 received her third star as a Lieutenant General. Upon receiving her third star she was appointed the 19th Superintendent of the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the first woman to hold that post. He retired in 2017 as a U.S. Air Force Lieutenant General.
