John Dallager graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado, Class of 1969. As a fighter pilot during the Vietnam War, he received three Distinguished Flying Crosses. As a Lieutenant General he returned to the Academy to serve as its 15th Superintendent from 2000 to 2003. He resigned in 2003 in the wake of sex scandals at the Academy and was demoted upon retirement to Major General.
