After serving as an enlisted man in the Army Air Forces in World War II period, Tedd Bishop transferred to the U.S. Air Force when it became a separate branch of service in 1947. He was commissioned in 1948, flying combat missions in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He has the distinction of being one of the few people to have flown operationally over both the North and South Poles. He retired in 1978 as a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General.
