Edward Barber was commissioned in the Coast Artillery Corps in 1921. After serving in in World War II, he transferred to the U.S. Air Force when it became a separate branch of service in 1947. He retired in 1951 as a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star to Brigadier General Edward Barber, United States Army Air Forces, for meritorious service in the Western Pacific Area from February to September 1945. As Commanding General, 59th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Brigade on Saipan, he materially aided in “mopping up” operations on this island and in training his troops for the projected invasion of Japan.
