The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain (Air Corps) Horace Bickley Reeves (ASN: 0-756025), United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Fighter Pilot of the 431st Fighter Squadron, 475th Fighter Group, FIFTH Air Force, in an aerial flight over Ben Goi Bay, Indo-China, on 28 March 1945. Captain Reeves was flying in a formation of 8 P-38 aircraft on an escort mission when his flight was attacked from above and behind by 4 enemy fighters. Coming to the aid of a fellow pilot who was being attacked by one of the hostile fighters, he fired a short burst at the Japanese plane and scored hits on its cockpit. It exploded violently as it crashed to the ground. Although he was low on gasoline, Captain Reeves pursued another hostile airplane into a cloud. When it emerged he closed in on it rapidly, firing several bursts. The fighter broke into flames and crashed into a mountain. The outstanding courage and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Reeves during this flight are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Army Air Forces.
