During World War II, Abner Aust became a U.S. Army Air Forces ACE, credited with shooting down 5 enemy aircraft in aerial combat. During the Vietnam War he flew more than 300 missions over both North and South Vietnam, and retired in 1972 as a U.S. Air Force Colonel.
