The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Colonel Charles Wayne Maultsby (AFSN: 0-1910993), United States Air Force, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force as Aircraft Commander and leader of a flight of three F4C’s in Southeast Asia on 20 May 1967. On that date, Major Maultsby led his flight to attack hostile anti-aircraft gun positions which were causing grievous losses to friendly aircraft operating in their area. Major Maultsby relentlessly attacked and destroyed the hostile positions in the face of intense anti-aircraft fire. His courageous actions and aerial skill resulted in neutralization of a serious threat to friendly air operations. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Major Maultsby has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
