Stewart, United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Pilot in Composite Squadron TEN (VC-10), embarked in U.S.S. GAMBIER BAY (CVE-73), over Leyte, Philippine Islands, on 20 October 1944.
