The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Albert Young Bellsey (NSN: 106086), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight. As pilot of a PBY-4 aircraft on armed patrol missions during the period 22 August 1944 to 22 October 1944, he made courageous and determined attacks at low altitude in the face of heavy automatic weapons fire. In this series of attacks one minelayer of the TOSHIM Class was sunk, one BETTY aircraft was destroyed, two small cargo vessels were destroyed and one damaged. His actions on these occasions showed a high degree of professional skill, courage and devotion to duty and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
