The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Second Gold Star in lieu of a Third Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Albert Young Bellsey (NSN: 106086), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight. On 14 November 1944, Lieutenant Bellsey, as pilot of a Navy Liberator bomber on armed combat patrol deep in enemy territory, made five bold attacks under enemy fire, causing a loss to the enemy of three fighter planes and damage to three more. His aggressiveness and professional skill were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Albert Young Bellsey (NSN: 106086), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Pilot of a large PB-4Y aircraft engaged in an armed search mission in the Southwest Pacific Area on 9 October 1944. Lieutenant Bellsey sighted and furnished valuable information on the movements of a strong enemy task force. When compelled to leave the force because of fuel shortage he attacked and sank an enemy tanker, in spite of intense and accurate anti-aircraft fire. Later, when he was far from his base, he attacked and destroyed an eight-thousand ton enemy cargo vessel. His actions on each of these occasions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Third Gold Star in lieu of a Fourth Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Albert Young Bellsey (NSN: 106086), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as co-pilot of a heavy bomber operating in the Solomon Islands area during the period from January to September 1943. He participated in numerous strikes against the enemy, and in patrol, reconnaissance and attack missions, often under adverse flying conditions and against active enemy opposition. His courageous efforts contributed materially to the gains made in that area and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
