The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Aviation Machinist’s Mate Second Class Robert A. Anderson (NSN: 6206066), United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Turret Gunner on a carrier-based Torpedo Plane in Torpedo Squadron THIRTY-ONE (VT-31). Aviation Machinist’s Mate Second Class Anderson participated in numerous bombing attacks over enemy territory in all major engagements in the Central Pacific Area from 15 January 1944 to 4 August 1944, and contributed greatly to the success of the missions assigned to his squadron. His courage and superb coolness under fire and complete disregard for his own safety were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
