The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Distinguished Service Medal to Vice Admiral John Louis Chew, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States as Commander Antisubmarine Warfare Force, Pacific, from January 1966 through June 1967. Vice Admiral Chew demonstrated an extraordinary ability in combining outstanding leadership and keen insight to produce unprecedented advances in antisubmarine readiness in the Pacific. In promoting the effectiveness of ASW, he guided the ASW force to overall knowledge of ASW problems and accelerated the pace toward the solving of these problems.
