The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Ensign Franklin Henry Alden (NSN: 0-355039), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight over Kyushu, Okinawa Jima, and Tokuno Shima during the period from 18 March to 6 April 1945. As Pilot of a carrier-based photographic plane he flew five missions, obtaining valuable pictures. His skill and courage were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
