The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman Third Class Clifford Amos Brown (NSN: 8262717), United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as gunner and radio operator in a carrier-based dive bomber in an attack against a Japanese battleship and screening force near the naval base at Kure, Japan, on 19 March 1945. While under the constant threat of enemy air attack, and in the face of extremely intense and accurate anti-aircraft fire from enemy warships and shore batteries, he materially aided the pilot in the successful accomplishment of his mission. His courage and skill were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
