The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Ensign Evan Morris Adams (NSN: 0-351245), United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in the vicinity of Tokyo, Honshu Island, Japan, on 17 February 1945. As pilot of a carrier based fighter plane he participated in a coordinated attack on an enemy aircraft engine plant. In spite of intense anti-aircraft fire and enemy interceptor planes he pressed home his bombing run scoring a direct hit on the installation. His skill and courage were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Ensign Evan Morris Adams (NSN: 0-351245), United States Navy, for gallantry and intrepidity in action while participating as Pilot of a carrier-based plane in an engagement with enemy fleet units off the coast of Kyushu, Japan, on 7 April 1945. Despite unfavorable flying conditions and intense anti-aircraft fire, he pressed home a bombing and strafing attack on an enemy destroyer, damaging it and contributing materially to the success of the operations of his unit. This vessel was observed to leave its screening position around a damaged cruiser. The cruiser was subsequently sunk by torpedo planes of his own group. His courageous conduct throughout this mission was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
