The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Eston E. Lough (ASN: 39310773), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 230th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 9 October 1944, in Germany. As an instrument operator with a forward observation pots, Technician Fifth Grade Lough distinguished himself in an outstanding manner. Although small arms and mortar fire was covering the area, Tv Lough courageously maintained vital liaison between forward and rear elements of the attacking force. At times it was necessary for him to move in front of the leading elements of the infantry, but Technician Fifth Grade Lough, undaunted by the hazards involved, executed his duties in a superior manner, thereby assisting his unit materially to give supporting artillery fire. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fifth Grade Lough, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
