The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Second Lieutenant James Albert Nemetz, United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life near Fort Walton, Florida, on 1 June 1975. On that date, Second Lieutenant Nemetz, in the face of a treacherously powerful ocean undertow, unhesitatingly and with complete disregard for his own safety, swam to the aid of a drowning man. His perseverance, skill, and intrepid action saved a human being’s life. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Second Lieutenant Nemetz reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
